Hard Knocks

HARD KNOCKS - Written by Carroll Bryant

It’s been a long time
I can’t get it out of my head
Words can be unkind
Like blue can be painted red

You keep spinning the truth
They keep spinning the lies
They keep blaming their youth
You keep rolling the dice
Bullies like what they say
And they like what they do
Don’t go wishing it that way
Someday they’ll be coming for you too

It’s been a wild night
And visions can replace the dark
It was a dog fight
But I had to defend my heart

Girls will run around town
While they play with their toys
Just like Patrick Brown
Likes to play with little boys
You can squeeze all the blood
From the palm of your hand
Hide behind your fake love
Or you can make your own stand

And in the mystery of life
You seek for wisdom and for something wise
The school of hard knocks always has classes
Morning, noon and night
They’re nothing but asses

It was a rough ride
Glad to see it finally end
No, you can’t hide
Behind a false prophet or friend

You keep spinning instead
They keep jumping the gun
They keep spinning their web
You keep them on the run
Bullies like what they say
And they like what they do
Don’t go wishing it that way
Someday they’ll be coming for you too

They will be coming for you
