My mother and I have always been close. I often compared it to "Elvis and Glady's Presley" only, with more spark. I think it had a lot to do with the fact that my mother did not understand my "need" to write. Nobody else in the family ever demonstrated an artistic side to them like me. I never understood it either.
The music to the song came first. It was inspired a few years before our fall-out. It popped into my head one day after watching the movie "The Crow" starring Brandon Lee.
When my mother and I clashed, I walked away and did not speak to her for quite a long time. Several years in fact. One day, while in Yoctangee Park in Chillicothe, Ohio, on a rainy day, I wrote a poem which would later be used for the song. I called the poem "Forever Things" and the instrumental part I called "Flight Of The Raven"
Since the time we mended our fences, our relationship has never been stronger. I think she finally came to terms with my writing. I think i did too. I always tried to look at my writing as both a blessing and a curse. I have stated on many occasions that I never once woke up a day in my life wanting to be a writer. I just woke up one day and realized that I was a writer. Writing chose me.
Anyhow, I am supplying a link to the song on my Youtube Channel and the lyrics below. I am also supplying a link to the instrumental version as well.
Flight Of The Raven (Instrumental)
Forever Things (Flight Of The Raven)
You're a star
Falling from nowhere from afar
You are nothing like anything I have ever seen
A dream inside a dream
You're the way
The way I know that I can never say
And anyplace I go I know I'm not supposed to be
Lost in eternity
Fly into my heart
Dance inside my pain
Hide behind my fears
Melt inside my flames
Fly into my heart
Dance inside my pain
Hide behind my fears
Melt inside my flames
Fly
Fly into another place and time
Fly through all the madness that swirls inside my mind
And maybe you will find forever things
Fly
Fly into the darkness of my light
Fly through all the weakness that grows on the other side
And maybe you will find forever things
