The Poison Wine

THE POISON WINE - Written by Carroll Bryant

Come to me, I am the Lord - I thought he said
Are you free?
Come and explore the land of the dead

I am only asking for your soul
But you have to pay a price for me to take it
I can give you all a better life
But you will have to have the will to make it

Sacrifice, leave it to me - I heard him say
Paradise is right around the corner
Come any day

You must give me all of your possessions
You will not need them anymore
My name is J.J. and I must be worshiped
I am the one you must adore

I don’t understand how just one man
Can kill so many people just by talking to them

They drank the poison wine

Come to me, I am the Lord - I thought he said
Are you free?
Come and explore the land of the dead

I am your government
I am your king
Whatever I say, you must do
Always remember we are religious people
And we shall all die before this is through

I don’t understand how just one man
Can kill so many people just by talking to them

They drank the poison wine

Murder never looked so beautiful
So wonderful
So peaceful and mundane

Love was never so scriptable
So hypocritical
And cynical to the point of insane

Who is crazier, the leader or the ones who follow him?

Come to me, I am the Lord - I thought he said
Are you free?
Come and explore the land of the dead

I am only asking for your soul
But you have to pay a price for me to take it
I can give you all a better life
But you will have to have the will to make it

I don’t understand how just one man
Can kill so many people just by talking to them

They drank the poison wine
