The Ocean

THE OCEAN - Written by Carroll Bryant

I hate to say it, but tonight is the night
I got to do what my heart says is right
I'm not going to lie, and I want you to understand
That I'm a dreaming man

I know it's gonna hurt when I say goodbye
And deep down inside I know that I am gonna cry
But I got these feelings that I just can't hide, and I need you to understand
That I'm a dreaming man

And when ever you look out over the ocean
You might as well be looking out over my dreams
Because they spread that wide, and they run that deep
And no one will ever know what they mean to me
Not even me

I know when it comes to us, I see how hard you try
But footloose and fancy free is something I can't deny
Together I know how high we could fly, but try and understand
That I'm a dreaming man

I hope you can forget me when I'm gone
Promise you will forgive me if I'm wrong
I have to embrace the road to my pot of gold
And it's where I have to be so say you understand
That I'm a dreaming man

And when ever you look out over the ocean
You might as well be looking out over my dreams
Because they spread that wide, and they run that deep
And no one will ever know what they mean to me
Not even me

I could slap the face of the bitch that is my life
But where do you think that will get me?
I could dance the wedding with the bitch that is my wife
But tell me where that would lead me?
You don't really need me

In the end, do you think I'll really be that happy?

I hate to say it, but tonight is the night
I got to do what my heart says is right
I'm not going to lie, and I want you to understand
That I'm a dreaming man

And when ever you look out over the ocean
You might as well be looking out over my dreams
Because they spread that wide, and they run that deep
And no one will ever know what they mean to me
Not even me
