Smitten

SMITTEN - Written by Carroll Bryant

The first time I saw you

I simply adored you

At first, I didn’t know what to say

I needed to tell you

I tried to ignore you

At worst, you would just walk away

Maybe I should have just

Kept on pretending and

Things would be better today

Someway

The next thing that I knew

I’d fallen hard for you

And feelings got lost in the fray

A heart can only survive when it’s lonely

Touched by love, it can surely decay

Whispers and moaning, sounds of love groaning

I know now I should have walked away

Walked away

The first time I saw you

I had to applaud you

At first, I only wanted to stay

I yearned to tell you

I wanted to own you

At worst, you wouldn’t want to play

Maybe I should have just

Kept on pretending

Things would be better that way

Someway

The next thing that I knew

I’d fallen hard for you

And feelings got lost in the fray

A love can only survive when it’s lonely

Touched by truth, it could surely persuade

Lurking and waiting, anticipating

I know now I should have walked away

Walked away

The first time I saw you

Was the last time I knew you

And now we are strangers today

A heart can only survive when it’s lonely

Touched by love, it could surely decay

Whispers and moaning, sounds of love groaning

I know now I should have walked away

Walked away

The first time I saw you

I simply adored you

And I should have walked away
