Because You Are There

BECAUSE YOU ARE THERE - Written by Carroll Bryant

I have always wanted to leave my hometown
It seemed that that old place always brought me down
Down to the lowest feeling
That my life just had no meaning
The same old people, places and things

And then one day my dream finally came true
But that was long before I met you
I joined the military and then I came back home on leave
Only to meet the most beautiful girl I've ever seen

I don't want to go back to Chillicothe
If that old town burnt down, I wouldn't care
But if I ever return to Chillicothe
It's only because you are there

I have always been a big run around
Going to bed with every girl I found
But honey, it's kind of strange
With you I just want to change
I just want someone I can depend upon

Even though our ages have to be considered
It don't make no difference to me
But now I'm off back to Virginia with this empty feeling
You know that it can feel so lonely

I don't want to go back to Chillicothe
If that old town burnt down, I wouldn't care
But if I ever return to Chillicothe
It's only because you are there

I can only imagine what you are thinking
How could this man ever feel this way?
When I go to bed at night you're all I'm dreaming
Don't ask me to explain because I wouldn't know what to say

I don't want to go back to Chillicothe
If that old town burnt down, I wouldn't care
But if I ever return to Chillicothe
It's only because you are there

Now I want to go back to Chillicothe
If that old town burnt down, I think I would care
And if I ever return to Chillicothe
It's only because you are there

Only because you are there
