And Now

AND NOW - Written by Carroll Bryant

And now
We can go our separate ways
Live from day to day
Both dwelling in decay

And now
We can heal from all the fights
Stop skanking with our knives
Run for our very lives

We can’t placate our memories
Love is a monkey shock disease
Anger lives atop the trees
This isn’t how it had to be

And now
We can rest our hateful words
Lay down our bloodied swords
Baptize the pain and hurt

And now
We can breathe in better air
Pretend like we never cared
Spread ourselves almost everywhere

We can’t mandate chivalry
Love is a door without a key
Anger mates with misery
This isn’t how it had to be

I can write a thousand ways of everything I hallucinate
And you were never the poster girl of malevolent

I can sing a thousand songs of everything that we did wrong
And that would never erase the benevolence

I can write a thousand ways of everything I instigate
And you were the clever one for entitlement

I can sing a thousand songs of everything that carries on
And you would never compromise your consonance

And now
We can make for a better path
Find something that will last
Survivors of the aftermath

And now
We can hold our heads in shame
Know that we’re both to blame
Winners of a losing game

We can’t fancicate felicity
Love is a bowl without a bean
Anger rules us like a king
This isn’t how it had to be

Love is a yard sale in the spring
And I would give up everything
If it could be how it ought to be
