An Empty Room

AN EMPTY ROOM - Written by Carroll Bryant

An empty room
Windows open
A fireplace
Coals need stoking
An echo whispers gently in my ear

The wind is freezing
Tears keep falling
Thoughts are melting
My heart’s calling
Let it go and let it be my year

And the earth starts shaking
People running
In the distance
One big explosion
Face the truth and then face the fear

You know where this is heading

An empty room
Paint is cracking
Wood floor scratches
Ceiling needs spackling
The smell of death lingers in the air

Your love is sepsis
My time’s ticking
Lost at the races
Souls keep begging
And you don’t even seem to care

You know where this is heading

An empty room
Feet are frozen
Doors closed tightly
Everything’s broken
Another face of day that only stares

The world is spinning
It’s so chilling
Stop believing
Tongues keep swearing
Two eyes blind with mice everywhere

You know where this is heading

An empty room
Windows open
A fireplace
Coals need stoking
An echo whispers gently in my ear

An empty room
I’m still standing
So misplaced
The end is beginning
Let it go and let it be my year

And in this empty room I stand
Pieces of a broken man
Born unto this strangest of lands
You, a suicide bomber

An empty room
Windows open
I close them
