THE YELLING TREE (LOVE) - Written by Carroll Bryant
To your heart, I am an
extraterrestrial
An invader to your world
The world
To all worlds known and
unknown
A parasite of invalid love
A space cadet drifting
aimlessly
Through vortexes and black
holes
An astronaut of the nebulas
Traveling from one galaxy to
the next
Trying to avoid debris and
radio active particles
Breathing from an unending
supply of oxygen
From an apparatus made by
your hands
Was I not good enough for
you?
Too imperfect?
Too real for your fantasies?
Or a blemish on the face of
your reality?
It’s quiet out here
Gazing at all the nothingness
around me
Reflecting light from distant
suns
A moon that embodies
everything you are not
To feel like an asteroid
A meteorite
An infallible invention of
malcontent
Known exclusively as your “ex”
More like your fool
You’re the one who performed
a polar shift!
You’re the one whose orbit is
out of whack!
It was your climate that
changed!
Was I not bad enough for you?
Too perfect?
Too unfathomable for your
thoughts?
Or a stain on the prom dress
of your life?
I question your intentions!
I question you!
I hate you!
I love you!
I miss you!
I can’t live!
Without you
And yet I do live
Just barely it seems
My shadows, my self pity
They are my only company
Still alone out here in vast
emptiness of every heartbeat
That is yours to take
Why me?
Why now?
Why not?
Why not me?
No!
Trifle as I am in my moments
of solitude
I yearn for one day to remove
my helmet
And breathe-in time
The dead cold of your soul
The dead cold that deprives
me of my smile
Love!
I laugh!
What a joke!
The pain is the punch-line
You are you
I am me
Where can we go from here?
We can go nowhere!
Love …
What a joke
What a laugh
What a tear
Damn you!
