THE DRUM - Written by Carroll Bryant
Standing on the threshold of a world that is so cold
I watch the politicians as they all get bought and sold
The grass just isn't greener on the other side anymore
No shelter for the homeless
No money for the poor
And the beat goes on and on
Marching to a different drum
And the beat goes on and on
Dumb keeps getting dumb
Children are not laughing like they once did in the past
Crimes against our nature has caught up to us at last
The cheaper road we travel
The more our attitude
We're fighting for our pleasures while the hungry beg for food
Learning is the answer
Earning is the key
How long with our prejudice before we can look to see?
So quick to talk to Jesus
So soon we walk away
We figure out solutions just to throw them all away
And the beat goes on and on
Marching to a different drum
And the beat goes on and on
Dumb keeps getting dumb
The trial that took forever by our hands was custom made
Blacks and whites together
Digging deeper our own graves
As crazy as we're getting the more to less we care
Hurting each other knowing all to well unfair
And the beat goes on and on
Marching to a different drum
And the beat goes on and on
Dumb keeps getting dumb
And the beat goes on and on
Everybody wants to buy a gun
And the beat goes on and on
Dumb keeps getting dumb
And the beat goes on and on ......
