THE HARDEST ROAD TO TRAVEL - Written by Carroll Bryant
When I think of how we were
I fall victim to myself
I didn’t care how much it
hurt
For every heaven tastes of
hell
But I poured it out for you
And this you need to know
From the seed of just one
glance
A feeling had to grow
If only I had known
Of course I didn’t know
That the hardest road to
travel
Is the day you said goodbye
When everything unraveled
There was nothing left in
your eyes
And the quickest ones to
follow
Were the ones who couldn’t
see
Breaking up is never easy
It was the end of everything
Everything to me
I want to give that way again
sometime
Just I like did before
I want to give my love and
then to find
I want to give a little bit
more
This is the lesson that I
learned
So at least I realize
When you bleed to death
tomorrow
You’ll have the map to
paradise
If only there were warnings
There never seems to be a
sign
That the hardest road to
travel
Is the day you said goodbye
When everything unraveled
There was nothing left in
your eyes
And the quickest ones to
follow
Were the ones who couldn’t
see
Breaking up is never easy
It was the end of everything
Everything to me
This is my own confession
No matter how late that it
comes
I know it’s no consolation
But you were really the only
one
This is of my own doing
To myself I always burn
So I ask for your forgiveness
To the lesson I have learned
This is the lesson that I
learned
That the hardest road to
travel
Is the day you said goodbye
When everything unraveled
There was nothing left in
your eyes
And the quickest ones to
follow
Were the ones who couldn’t
see
Breaking up is never easy
It was the end of everything
The hardest road to travel
Is the one you let pass by
When the road you’re on is
gravel
It never makes for an easy
ride
And the smartest ones to
ponder
Are the ones who aren’t in
need
Breaking up is never easy
It was the end of everything
Everything to me
