Mississippi King

MISSISSIPPI KING - Written by Carroll Bryant

Mississippi man, and I'm lonely
Mississippi man, and I need someone to hold me
Tonight
If you can
Mississippi man
Mississippi king

Born dirt poor and I lost my brother Jesse
Growing up alone and there was no other than me
Loved my mother
She was my only comfort
Tupelo was hot on a summer day

Moved around so much and then we ended up
In Tennessee
It didn't really matter much back then
Not to me
My mother and my father was my
Only family
My high schools days soon quickly faded
Life played my fate to me
Had a destiny and my whole entire life
Just shattered

Mississippi man, and I'm lonely
Mississippi man, and I need someone to hold me
Tonight
If you can
Mississippi man
Mississippi king

Uncle Sam called my name
I did my duty
Never would I be the same
Goodbye mother
I never did lose the pain

Met the one and I brought her into
My world
The girl I would only love and she
Would come to leave me eventually
I loved her
I knew she knew that I did
We were meant to be
Then came Lisa Marie

And if I had the chance to change the way I lived
My life
I would buy an Hawaiian day and stay with them forever
But there is just no way to change our yesterday and then
We all will fade away
As if tomorrow never came

The rest of me is history
The times that we shared
Thought we cared
And everything
It's the memories that play forever in our minds
Our souls
Just like that Hawaiian day we bought and then forgot
We sold
There's just no way that we can change tomorrow
Or our yesterday

Fade away

Mississippi man, and I'm lonely
Mississippi man, and I need someone to hold me
Tonight
If you can
Mississippi man
Mississippi king
