Of Unknown Origin

OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN - Written by Carroll Bryant

Oh no, here it goes again
Placing words upon some paper
Spirit of the pen
I guess I never know exactly what I'm going to say
I only take it line for line until it goes away
Until the next time

I write about love and hate and all that's in between
I write about the things I saw and things I've never seen
Now I don't claim to be a brain, but still, just what I find
Is that it comes and goes away and leaves me hanging in my mind
Until the next time

Oh, if I could only understand it, I could really be free
One of these days I'm gonna have to lasso it
Get control, you know?

Oh, if I could only really manage it, I would truly be free
One of these days I'm gonna have to channel it
Get control, you know?

Oh no, here it goes again
Translating interpretations
Spirit of the pen
I guess I never know exactly what I'm gonna say
I only take it line for line until it goes away
Until the next time

I write about philosophy, religion sometimes too
I write about things I've done and things other people might do
Now I don't claim to be insane, but still, just what I find
Is that it comes and goes away and drives me out of my mind
Until the next time

I'm the poetic surgeon
But I don't know where it comes from
It's of unknown origin
Still without explanation
If perhaps someone can find the answer
Then please inform me
In hopes that I may get control of it
You know?
